Group Therapy
Introduction to group therapy
The purpose of group therapy is to treat several clients suffering from the same or similar mental disorders or from similar illness. Group-specific phenomena are used therapeutically.
In a group therapy session, people with similar psychological or psychosomatic disorders or illnesses meet and learn from each other. In the group "XY" it is XY-ill people who talk about their experiences. As a therapist, I lead the group. Often it turns out that there is a common current theme (in the case of infectious diseases like Corona, perhaps the fear of co-infections). We share fears, stress but also love. The group asks us to get or stay in relationship. Choose group therapy close to home. Or choose a group therapy in Berlin where you feel comfortable in a good atmosphere. This gives you a chance to stay mentally and emotionally connected to the group at home. In my practice you will find a comfortable ambience next to the group room and you are also allowed to linger before and after the group sessions.
Approach to group therapy
Procedure of a group therapy
In group, we learn honesty and empathy for the first time outside of individual therapy. Group therapy offers the opportunity to open up in front of others and listen to others in a protected setting. In the group we practice for life because what we can do in the group, we will be able to do outside. In the group we learn to deal with our feelings on a cognitive and physical level.
Because it is important that the group and each individual feel during the 90 minutes, I start each session with a short body scan and meditation. After that, each participant is allowed to briefly share how they are feeling and what they may have experienced in the meditation. Then we move into a second round of questions, where each person describes a specific concern that they are seeking help with. After this round, either a common theme crystallizes, which is then discussed under my guidance, or the suffering of one person in the group is so great that I make it a theme under agreement.
At the end of the session we go into a short guided meditation and end the group therapy with a final round of questions about the condition (lighter or heavier).
